EMERGENCY FIRST AID AT WORK

EMERGENCY FIRST AID COURSES

Ensuring that every work environment is safe is both a fundamental right for all employees and the responsibility of all employers. In fact, it is a Health and Safety Law requirement for employers and organisations to provide a safe and healthy work environment.

It’s all well and good having a first aid box to hand, but that might not be enough depending on the workplace. In places where there is a higher risk of injury, or perhaps in more hostile working environments, a thoroughly trained and certified first aider will need to be present should an emergency arise. They will need to have the abilities, skills and knowledge of how to perform emergency first aid to someone who is injured, or who is suffering from an illness or whose life may be in jeopardy.

This comprehensive Ofqual-accredited first aid training course runs for one day, and covers a broad range of first aid skills. The Emergency First Aid at Work Level 3 qualification will provide successful participants with the skills necessary to become a qualified first aider.

EMERGENCY FIRST AID TRAINING – WHAT’S INVOLVED?

Our Emergency First Aid at Work course covers a wide range of first aid emergencies, enabling all participants to deal with critical emergencies with confidence, in a quick, safe and effective way. Additionally, this first aid training course will include any protocol changes that may have arisen since any previous courses were attended. This one-day emergency first aid course will give participants a qualification to the highest level of first aid, meeting the statutory requirements of the Health and Safety Regulations 1981.

Overview of ATR’s Level 3 Emergency First Aid at Work course content:

  • Preventing cross-infection
  • The need for recording incidents and accidents
  • Use of available First aid equipment
  • Assess the situation and circumstances to act safely, promptly and effectively in an emergency
  • Delivering first aid to a casualty who is unconscious (including seizures)
  • Correct methods of cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR)
  • Administering first aid to a casualty who is choking, wounded, bleeding or suffering from shock
  • Provide appropriate first aid for minor injuries (including small cuts, grazes and bruises, minor burns and scalds, or small splinters)
  • Learning how to use an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) properly

Your abilities in carrying out emergency first aid will be continually assessed throughout the course, which will ultimately determine your readiness to act safely, promptly and effectively when an emergency arises, and how you deal with the casualty.

Compared to our First Aid at Work course, the Emergency First Aid training only lasts for one day. Standard First Aid at Work training lasts for three days and covers other topics that are not included in this course. For example, in this Emergency First Aid course, you won’t learn about how to deal with fractures, chest and spinal injuries or how to administer correct first aid to a casualty who is suffering from a heart attack or a stroke. That will be covered in our 3-day First Aid at Work course.

After three years of holding Emergency First Aid at Work certification, organisations can obtain Emergency First Aid at Work requalification by attending a repeat of our 1-day course, if completed within 28 days of the original certificate’s expiration.

Additionally, while not a requirement, ATR highly recommend all first aiders take an annual 4-hour First Aid at Work refresher, to ensure you are still retaining the right knowledge and skills.

Any first aid training can be delivered in our Centre of Excellence near Reading, or at your venue. The practical nature of our scenario-based courses means that they’re provided with access to an anticipated working environment for delegates.
