Who is this course for?
The Level 3 Award in First Response Emergency Care (RQF) is a regulated and nationally recognised qualification, ideal for those looking to work or volunteer as a first responder.
Among the first to arrive at a scene, first responders typically include police officers, firefighters, and those providing medical cover at festivals and events such as Emergency/Community First Responders, Door Supervisors, Close Protection Operatives and Security Guards as well as those working in high-risk environments including the military, power stations, agriculture and manufacturing.
Pre-requisites
Learners must be at least 17 years old on the first day of the training.
There are no other formal entry requirements but to benefit from the learning we advise that Learners have a minimum of Level 2 in literacy or equivalent and a basic understanding of first aid.

- Assessing an incident
- Life-threatening and non life-threatening illnesses and injuries
- Assessing and managing a patient’s airway
- Using an AED
- Administering emergency oxygen
- Assessing and managing trauma patients
- Catastrophic bleeding
- Chest injuries
- Compromised circulation
- Wounds and eye injuries
- Burns and scalds
- Poisoning
- Head, spinal and musculoskeletal injuries
- Breathing difficulties
- Anaphylaxis
- Suspected major illness
- Convulsions
- Effects of environmental exposure
- Adult and child resuscitation (CPR)
How will I be assessed?
- 6 x practical assessments/skills tests
- 3 x theory assessments (multiple choice question papers)
- 1 x invigilated exam.

What do we do differently?
All our first aid courses are taught using our bespoke scenario facility which utilises realistic set ups to add context to the skills being taught. These scenarios are run at a level appropriate to the level of training but include crash scenes, falls from heights, violent assaults and even terror attacks and explosions.
